The kid in us knows all the answers.
A kid’s mind is very simple. it mostly works on the impulses, or based on the things that they like and the things that they don’t like. A kid always wants to do things that he/she would like, things that, in some ways bring him pleasure or just keep him away from boredom. When a kid feels sad, the only thing that hovers his mind is – I want to get out of this situation as soon as possible, because this doesn’t feel good. For feeling good, he mostly depend on his parents. But the point is- that kids bear a realization that there is a way they can feel better- is if they can get out of this place or a particular situation. They don’t know how, so they always look up to their parents for that. And correctly so, it is a responsibility of an adult to think of ways they can make a situation better.
As adults, when we find ourselves in adverse situation, we become hopeless, agonize over our situation and feel that there is nothing that can make this better- this heavy feeling sitting like a giant rock on our heart. If you feel this way, it’s time that you awaken the child in you who is optimistic and looks forward to life with the belief that ” it can get better.”
When you feel absorbed by negative thoughts, it becomes hard to focus on anything else. You can do nothing all day, but still feel tired because thinking takes up a lot of energy. and negative thinking not only takes up your energy but also leaves you in a state of anxiety, despair and depression. And that is why, it’s important to acknowledge those thoughts, interrupt them and distract yourself with something that doesn’t suck a lot of energy out of you, something that feels simple and easy and doesn’t make you fret.
Ways in which you can help yourself get out of unpleasant situations.
1.Expressing your emotions
Providing your thoughts and emotions an outlet can help you get rid of all the stress and negativity that has been weighing you down. A number of studies have shown that expressing our emotions can help us in improving the ability to understand and manage our emotions. Everyone has different ways of expressing their emotions and thoughts. Find out what works best for you and what you’re most comfortable with. Things like writing your thoughts on paper or talking to yourself, or talking to someone you’re close with, can really help you feel much better.
2. A walk in nature
Going out and taking a walk in nature has positive effects on both your physical and mental well-being. It energizes the body and soothes the mind. Nature not only has healing properties but sometimes, it can also prove to be a great inspirer. There is a good chance that you go out on a walk and see something in nature that inspires you and gives you a fresh perspective on life, which can actually uplift your mood.
3.Taking a bath
It is not unknown that water has many healing properties. It not only cleanses our body from the outside but also from the inside. I like to think it this way- Human body is an abode of organs, which is 70% water, which makes “water” the actual abode, the home to all our organs. When we are in water, our body feels at home, and we feel relaxed. Take a good, mindful bath, and let water dissolve all the tension of your mind and put you in a calm and relaxed state.
4. Meditating
When you’re in an unpleasant state of mind, your thoughts feel scattered, and you feel confused and disoriented. Meditation can help your mind get out of the state of disorientation and put you in a state of ease. During the times when you feel agitated by what’s happening around you and outside of you, you need to shift your focus on the inside and find comfort in the stillness of the inside.
5. Anything fun
Fun things are fun because they don’t demand too much of efforts nor do they require any skills. We do things for fun because we want to enjoy them and have a good time. Doing things for enjoyment like
- painting,
- dancing,
- singing,
- doodling,
- watching something light and funny,
- reading or
- something as simple as playing with your pet can fill you with feel-good energy.
6. Sleep
A good, sound sleep can do wonders. Sometimes your gloominess can make you feel exhausted and drain all your energy and you don’t feel like doing anything at all. So, snuggle up in your bed and sleep because putting your gloomy thoughts to sleep along with yourself may be the best possible course of action during those times.
