The Modi-led government announced the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections began.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs announced today that it will release the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024, allowing eligible individuals under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA-2019) to apply for Indian citizenship.”an.
“They added that applications will be submitted entirely online through a designated web portal.
“Rules announced prior to Lok Sabha polls.”
“The government has dismissed such narratives, affirming the CAA as a ‘law of the land’ that will be enforced.”
“During a business summit last month, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated that the CAA rules would be put into effect before the Lok Sabha polls.”
“He emphasized, ‘Our Muslim brothers are being misled and instigated against the CAA. The CAA is solely intended to grant citizenship to those who fled persecution in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. It does not aim to revoke anyone’s Indian citizenship.'”
